ALLAN & BRUSH'S TOP 100 OST TRACKS

Brush and I have conquered the best of NES and SNES music, and after over a decade of listening to the best movie music while playing a game of Magic: the Gathering, a road trip to a cottage or sipping on a rum and coke, we finally decided to put together our favourite 50 each to make the ultimate top 100 Original Sound Tracks for you all to enjoy.

MY MUSIC

I wrote this song for the apple of my eye, Maria, in 2016 for Valentine's Day. My brother Erik recorded it for me and added in some other cool instruments.

ALLAN & BRUSH'S TOP 100 SNES TRACKS

There's no better music in the video game industry than that of Super Nintendo. Brush and decided to go and find the top 100 songs ever made for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. We each chose 25 of our own favourites, and then agreed on the other 50 tracks. A lot of these were really tough to try and figure out, because SNES really started to develop some incredible music. It wasn't just nostalgia, and fun Nintendo games anymore; these were legit songs! Some of my absolute favourites are 'F-Zero's Big Blue', 'Final Fantasy 3's Opening Theme', just about all the 'Super Castlevania 4' songs, and the ending theme from 'Street Fighter 2'. The beauty of doing this with a friend, is that we have drastically different taste in SNES games. I had no idea what 'Actrasier' was until about a year ago when we decided to finish it up in WolfVille, Nova Scotia. Man, that game is amazing, and had such a good soundtrack! I hope that our diverse love of games can also spread into your musical love. Enjoy!

I listened to the Top 100 SNES so many times that I almost started to get bored of it. So lets load up another 100 SNES gems to bring us back to those magical times. Once again, Brush and I each picked 50 songs, so there’s an eclectic mix of video game music to satisfy all your itches. I will admit, near the end we started to scrape the bottom of the barrel for some good tunes. Let’s just say there won’t be a C-Side!

ALLAN & BRUSH'S TOP 100 NES TRACKS

The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is where it all began for me. When I was born (1984), I was given a NES controller in my hand, and I was trying to finish Commando on one life. (Funny enough, I actually did do that about a year ago, and my brother still can't believe it). But the music for the NES really changed my life, and listening to some of these tunes brings back such incredible, vivid memories for me. Playing 'The Legend of Zelda' at my cousin's place in Chicago. Trying to beat 'Snake, Rattle, and Roll' at my cousin's place in Toronto, or my brother and I trying to figure out how the fuck to get through 'Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest' without a bloody Nintendo Power guide. I can listen to these tunes over and over again, and I hope you can share in my happiness with these top 100 songs by Guybrush and I. Guybrush is one of the few friends I have who can really appreciate, and have the knowledge of video game music that I have. So together, we've created not only the best, but our personal favourites. Enjoy!

There are just too many good NES songs to just have a top 100. So Brush and I decided to make a ‘B-Sides’. I wouldn’t really say that these songs are any less amazing than the A-Side, they’re just finally getting some daylight.

*NSYNC

So when I was in grade 10, Haris came over to my place asked me a question - "Do you wanna dance to NSync?" And for some insane reason I said, "Yes". We were in my room for months watching music videos and live performances of NSync, trying to learn the moves perfectly. The problem was, I had never danced before, and I was dreadful at it. So learning it was really tough for me. I didn't understand the rhythm or what the hell I was doing. But I did it anyways because I didn't care about looking like a fool in high school.

We performed on New Years Eve in my basement in 2000 and had such a great time, we decided to keep on going. We did birthday parties, and even went into a University of Toronto talent show, and finished 2nd place. Backstreet Boys suck.

Talent show at University of Toronto (UofT) We came 2nd place. I had the flu, and threw up immediately after we danced.

First ever performance of Haris and I dancing to *Nsync. In the Hughes basement on New Years Ever. Dec 31, 2000.
